The New Maihar Band was the multi-instrumental ensemble at the Ali Akbar College of Music (AACM) in San Rafael, California. It was named after the original Maihar Band in the city of Maihar, India. The orginal Maihar Band was founded by Ali Akbar Khan's father, Alauddin Khan. The compositions are based on traditional raga compositions orchestrated by George Ruckert, former Director of AACM and professor of music at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
